Internship Experience at Ivory Advocates

By Kimberly Blessed-Alinda
BBA Student, ISBAT University

My name is Kimberly Blessed-Alinda, a Bachelor of Business Administration student at ISBAT University, specializing in International Business. As part of my academic journey and career development, I had the opportunity to intern at Ivory Advocates for one month. While it may be considered unconventional for a business student to intern at a law firm, this unique experience offered me invaluable exposure to the professional world and broadened my perspective on the intersection between business and legal practice.

From the very beginning, the environment at Ivory Advocates was welcoming and professional. My experience there was not only good but deeply impactful, thanks in large part to my supervisor, whose mentorship played a key role in shaping my personal and professional growth. One of the most notable aspects of his guidance was his commitment to helping me overcome my fear of public speaking. As someone who has always struggled in that area, I found it incredibly encouraging that he ensured I had a weekly presentation session with one of the bosses. This consistent practice built my confidence and helped me find my voice in professional spaces.

Beyond that, I was entrusted with the opportunity to assist during the East African Law Society’s annual conference , which was a major highlight of my internship. Being selected to participate in such a prestigious event exposed me to the practical aspects of the legal field and allowed me to interact with professionals. The experience was eye-opening and offered valuable insight into the intersection of business and law.

Overall, my time at Ivory Advocates was inspiring and empowering. I left with improved communication skills, and a deeper appreciation for the discipline, precision, and service that define the legal profession. I am truly grateful for the support, exposure, and mentorship I received during my internship, and I look forward to applying these lessons as I continue my studies and prepare for the professional world.
